Traditional Slavic Weddings

Traditional Slavic bride customs involved several rites and were complicated. They were created to allow the wedding to move from her family’s household to her father’s clan. Procedures for matchmaking, handshaking, and yet a bachelorette party were included. Additionally, they were meant to demonstrate that the partners was prepared for a new lifestyle and wedding.

Both the bride and groom stood on an analogion, a longer triangular fabric, during the marriage service. Their eyes were wreathed, and wine was poured over them by a priest. One of the more well-known Slavic wedding customs is that after the ceremony ukraine women, guests do clap and yell “gorko”! ( bitter )! until the couple gave it a kiss to” sweeten” the situation.

For the brides, the crowns made of light plants, such as purple and heather, were a sign of love and forever. A pastor led the newlyweds three periods around the analogion to represent their life up, and the brides wore it. Subsequently they split the crowns into shards, each marble representing their marriage’s time.

A feast was prepared following the ceremony, which could next up to two days! A kalachins was another after-wedding ceremony. This celebration involved 14 floats and was held when per month at the bride’s home. It was believed that if the groom and his buddies attended a kalachins, they would remain devoted to him in their union. Slav women are frequently referred to as powerful, selfless, and devoted wives and mothers. They are aware of their value and respect electric power, which is why they are able to preserve long-term relationships with low divorce rates.
